This Christmas season, for the first time ever, a Christmas tree over 3 meters tall has been lit up right in the heart of the ocean. This unique highlight is part of the festive Christmas activities, creating a shimmering, magical space while conveying a meaningful message of harmony between humans and nature, inspiring the spirit of “living together, dreaming together.”

The over 3-meter-tall Christmas tree is on display at the Main Tank of Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi.

The preparation process was quite a “challenge”

The underwater Christmas tree is a special “project” by Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi, designed and installed by a team of experts using eco-friendly materials to ensure absolute safety for the marine ecosystem. The entire tree, decorations, and LED lighting system underwent thorough treatment, soaking, and meticulous testing before being introduced into the water environment. Notably, the LED lights are not only waterproof but also securely reinforced to avoid posing any risks to marine life. The system was tested multiple times to ensure absolute safety before its official installation.

Technical specialists inspected the quality of the star-shaped LED lights, ensuring there was no electrical leakage to guarantee the safety of marine life.

The greatest challenge in installing the underwater Christmas tree was the marine environment itself. Seawater’s high corrosiveness required carefully selected materials to prevent damage and avoid any negative impact on the ecological environment. The LED lighting system also needed to be specially designed to withstand water pressure, emit no heat, and prevent electrical leakage, ensuring the safety of marine life.

Additionally, the installation process took place underwater, demanding meticulous attention, caution, and close coordination between divers and engineers. These factors contributed to the project taking nearly two weeks to complete. Once lit, the tree transformed the aquarium’s main tank into a shimmering, festive space, offering a one-of-a-kind experience never before seen in Vietnam.

Ms. Mai Thuy Linh from Phu Tho, a visitor to the Aquarium, shared: “This is the first time I’ve ever seen a Christmas tree displayed underwater and lit up. Watching the divers carefully and meticulously bring the tree down and set it up in the tank was truly impressive, especially the moment when the entire tree lit up.”

The moment divers brought the Christmas tree down to install it in the Main Tank—one of Southeast Asia’s largest curved acrylic tanks, measuring 18 x 5.8 meters—was truly remarkable.

Mr. Lee Hae Yeol, Director of Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi, stated that the Christmas tree not only serves as a decorative element but also symbolizes a wish for peace and happiness for all living creatures. He shared: “We believe that not only humans but also marine life deserve a warm and happy Christmas season. Placing the Christmas tree in the heart of the ocean is a symbol of living together and sharing dreams and hopes. It is also a reminder of the harmony between humans and nature, reminding us that we must always care for and protect our environment.”

The underwater Christmas tree has become a popular check-in spot for visitors.

The festive atmosphere fills the heart of the ocean.

Visiting Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi this Christmas season, guests can not only admire the underwater Christmas tree but also immerse themselves in a space filled with festive colors and enjoy a variety of exciting activities. The entire aquarium is decorated in a Christmas theme, with the fish tanks—homes to marine creatures—becoming standout highlights. Every corner is meticulously designed to create unique check-in spots, attracting visitors of all ages.

The “homes” of the marine creatures are all beautifully decorated.

In addition to admiring the vibrant space, visitors to Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi this Christmas season can also participate in a range of exciting activities. Children can write letters to Santa Claus, record their wishes, and wait for special gifts; challenge their patience by taking photos of the fish; and join in lively dances with Santa Claus. A special highlight is the sight of divers dressed as Santa Claus and an Elf, carrying surprise “gift bags” to give to the “residents” of the ocean, delighting both children and adults.

Visitors can write letters to Santa Claus for a chance to receive surprise gifts.

“The Christmas activities at Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi aim to convey a meaningful message about protecting nature. Through each activity, from writing letters and taking photos to enjoying the unique performances, we hope visitors will feel a special connection with the ocean and develop a deeper love for nature,” emphasized Mr. Lee Hae Yeol.

The Christmas celebrations at Lotte World Aquarium Hanoi will continue until December 31, 2024.
